Ever-Present Inner Stillness

Flickers of dust shimmer in the sun and glide through the space around me
The leaves gently and elegantly dance to rhythm of the wind
The sweetest high pitched melodies echo from the trees
And the lightest vibration of love permeates my emotional body

And as I rest here observing and floating in this present moment
I do not label, or ponder, or wonder or conceptualise
My head space not filled with a steady steam of thought
Instead I rest in stillness and in doing so I truly come alive

The harsh chill in the air jiggles my lip and chills my bones
The synthetic roar of machinery swarms the atmosphere
A frantic and restless crowd twist and turn around me
The heaviest vibration of fear occupies my emotional body

And as I rest here observing and floating in this present moment
I do not label, or ponder, or resist or conceptualise
My head space not filled with a rapid flowing river of thought
Instead I rest in stillness and in doing so I find peace amongst the chaos

Free from the dreamy dimension of thought, I enter a conscious dimension of peace
The key to my tranquil world holds the formless shape of the moment
And though the illusion of my outer world is ever-changing
The truth of my ever-present inner stillness remains

This is a short poem inspired by a particularly challenging few weeks and an accompanying sense of inner stillness. Inner stillness can be cultivated from within.

It is found through practicing presence and self-inquiry. When we create spaciousness within the mind, we awaken to an unshakable peace, freedom and pure joy away from thought. For more information please check out the following articles:
